PGA Pro Golfer Paul Stankowski
Paul Stankowski is a professional golfer from Oxnard, California. He played his college golf at the University of Texas El Paso and and turned pro in 1991. Interestingly, Paul Stankowski first played golf on Easter Sunday in 1978, and 18 years later, he won BellSouth Classic–on Easter Sunday. He’s also the only guy to ever win on the Nationwide Tour and PGA Tour in back-to-back weeks. And when he was asked about his biggest thrill in golf, he says it was definitely winning the BellSouth Classic.

Paul Stankowski on Golf, Life, and Faith
Paul Stankowski told Links Players:
I know it is easy to look back on life and say that all the good things are from God. Some people think that is too simple an explanation. But it is what I believe. And it comes straight from the Bible. In the book of Romans, Paul wrote, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
For me, golf has been one of those good things that God has given me. Making the PGA Tour was even better. And winning tournaments on the Tour—wow! But none of those things comes close to the best things God has given me: a wonderful family, encouraging friends, and the greatest gift of all, His Son Jesus Christ.
But it wasn’t always like this for Paul Stankowski. Even before he began to pursue God, God was pursuing him. He says:
I wasn’t even searching for God when I gave my life to Him. In my freshman year of college, we were out in California for the NCAA championship. College Golf Fellowship sponsored a dinner and Scott Simpson, the defending US Open champion, spoke. Scott shared his testimony of how Jesus Christ had changed his life after Scott had spent a long time wrestling with the truth of the Bible… I heard the message and I filed it away—for awhile.
In 1990, during my junior year at UTEP, I finally said, “OK, Lord.” …I prayed something like, “Lord, I’m a sinner. I need You to forgive me. I accept that fact that You died on the cross to forgive my sins. Thank you for that.”
But living the Christian life didn’t come so easily for Paul Stankowski—especially while living with the golf team. It wasn’t until a year later, when he showed up at his brother Tom’s wedding and rededicated his life to Christ and quit drinking. A couple of months later, he met his future wife at church. Today, he says being a dad is his biggest thrill outside of golf.
Paul Stankowski Ministry Video
Listen to him share his experience with College Golf Fellowship:
I was introduced to this ministry back in 1987, in college, and I went to a dinner. Scott Simpson spoke. It was amazing. First time I really heard the gospel clearly. Came to my first conference in 1990 and I never looked back. I started hosting them in ’96. I love doing it. My family loves it. My wife loves it. I’ve got two kids. They love hanging around you college guys and so, I really want you to come out and experience CGF and what we do. I just know the influence that God had on my life through this ministry and so we want to do the same–extend that opportunity to you guys. So that you can come and enjoy and just see what it’s all about. And maybe someday have an encounter with God–personally.
